Alba County is more than a milestone on the map of Romania. It is by far more than the first position in the alphabetical list of the counties.

Alba is a SYMBOL. It is a cradle of both geological history and of the birth of Romanian civilization. Nestled in the area located between the Carpathians, the Danube and the Black Sea, the county benefits from the handiwork of two gigantic creators: Nature and Man.

Nature provided a unique landscape, which is manifested in topographical attractions such as "The Snail Hill" at Vidra. This unusual natural phenomenon, consisting of millions of petrified shells, provides visitors with answers to many questions concerning the birth of land out of the primordial sea.

Near Sebes, tourists can visit the impressive image of an Egyptian pyramid, flanked by red pillars and great statues that was created in the tertiary era.

Alba County is topographically and zoologically unique due to its natural wonders, caves, protected landscapes, and wildlife. Nature testament was augmented by the hand of man. Just as Egypt is a gift of the Nile, Alba is a gift of the Mures River.

The Mures River is the spine of the county, gathering waters from mountain estuaries around the country. Nature has made Alba almost like a fortress in that it is highly protected by the mountains that spread on more than half of it. In addition, the county has vast mineral wealth in water, forests gold, and salt.

Alba County is also world renowned for its wine production. Vineyards were present in the county since ancient times due to the fertility of the soil and pleasant climatic conditions. The well-known publication "Romania: Country of Wines" includes 14 locations in the surroundings of Alba lulia, such as Sard, Telna, Ighiu, and Bucerdea Vinoasa. Stephan the Great took from this area the cuttings which gave birth to the "Grasa de Cotnari" wine that can still be enjoyed today.

Wines produced in the surroundings of Aiud or Alba in the Tarnave Region have won international awards for excellence.

Deeply Romanian, a symbol for the nation, Alba County is a silent witness to history. Its, culture and civilization make it among the most unique areas in Romania.
