Situated in the central-western Romania, on the Mures River, the county of Hunedoara is crossed by the Strei River, Crisul Alb River and Jiu River. Here, the most important mountains of the area meet Retezat, Parang, Hateg and Zarand Plateau.

Deva: the capital of the county of Hunedora, with its touristic objectives: the Fortress, the Magna Curia Castle, where the County Museum is now located, the statue of Decebal (king of the Dacian people), the statue of Traian (the Roman emperor), the Franciscan Monastery.
Hunedoara: with the Corvin?s Castle, an architectural monument from the XIVth century Middle Age.
It can be can visited: the knight?s hall, the assembly or the ball hall, the prison, the Capistrano tower, the gothic chapel (the XVth century), the Neboisa tower gallery. In the south-west of Hunedoara, you can visit a very picturesque area inhabited by a group of people called woodlanders, a very rich ethnographic area that is famous for its rich popular costumes and traditions.
Hateg: the first attestation in documents is from the XIIIth century and it was the residence of princes and land lords. 3 km south of Hateg is Nalati Castle, surrounded by a park where you can find old monuments from Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza. You can visit the Castle and the Reformed Church in Santamarie-Orlea situated at 4 km south of Hateg. The church, built in the XIIIth century, still preserves the original paintings and gothic architectural elements.
Densus: 13 km from Hateg - it?s a very original church built in XIIIth century with stones taken from the Roman ruins in Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza.
From Hateg, the tourists can go hiking in Retezat Mountains. These mountains are a natural reserve and here you can see hakes, protected plants and tree sand the very sensitive chamois.
The ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza, capital of the Roman Dacia, are among the main tourist objectives in the area. Here, you can visit the battlements of the city, the amphitheatre, the Augustal palace, the Forum, the temples dedicated to Aesculap and Hygia, the Archeology Museum.
In the part of the south-west of Hateg, you can see the ruins of the Colt Fortress and the Colt Church; Prislop Monastery (founded in 1404); the church in Strei (second half of the XIIIth century).
Calan: spa built on the site of the ancient Roman resort named Aquae, because of its rich thermal springs.
Orastie: Museum of Folk Art (objects in wood, icons painted on gloss, old traditional costumes), the Reform Church (from the XIIth century), the Fortress (from the XVth century), Palia Monument, the Orthodox Cathedral. Orastie represents the starting point for the tour of the Dacian fortresses: Sarmisegetuza Regia, former residence of the brave kings of Dacian people, Burebista and Decebal, the fortress in Costesti (18 km from Orastie), the stone walls of Blidaru fortress (4 km of Orastie).
Geoagiu Bai: resort and spa, opened the whole year, situated on an altitude of 300 m.
Brad: interesting Museum of Gold, displaying archeological exhibits dating from Roman times.
Tebea: a real sanctuary for the Motzi in the Apuseni Mountains. Horea?s oak tree and Avram Iancu?s tomb surrounded by the tombs of other leaders from the 1849 Revolution.
The Jiu Valley is surrounded by Retezat, Parang and Surianu Mountains. It is an important touristic area, especially for the mountain lovers.
