Ilfov County Comprising the main communities surrounding the national capital of Bucharest, Ilfov County offers to a variety of options to visitors. The county has forests, hunting reserves, lakes and rivers for fishing and different nautical sports, as well as a unique history and topography. Ilfov County surrounds the capital like a belt, being an administrative-territorial extension of Bucharest. The county?s tourism potential is both natural and man-made. On one hand, the natural potential presents itself in rivers, lakes, forests, and geothermal waters that have curative properties. Throughout the centuries, man created castles, monasteries, museums, and other attractions. Since Ilfov County is so close to Bucharest, visitors can also enjoy the amenities and attractions of the capital city. Ilfov County has a long and storied religious and cultural heritage. For instance, the largest necropolis in southeastern Europe was found at Cernica-Calduraru, and the ecclesiastical sites and architectural monuments at Afumati, Caciulati, Mogosoaia, Pantelimon, and Silistea Snagovului are truly remarkable. Just twelve kilometers from Bucharest, is the Cernica Monastery, which housed a great school of painters and transcribers. Within the monastic complex there is a museum that presents approximately 300 of icons, manuscripts, cult objects, and Gobelin tapestry.

Other attractions in the Snagov Area include: The Lake and the Forest in Snagov ? (40 km from Bucharest): Snagov is a popular local attraction, as Snagov Lake is one of the largest of its type on the Romanian plane. The lake is a haven for anglers, swimmers, and water sports of all kinds. The Snagov Forest is arranged as a vast park with beaches, restaurants and much more. This forest is part of an old forest called ?Codrii Vlasiei? that used to cover the whole Romanian Plain. It was declared natural reservation and is now a protected site. Snagov is the final resting place of the famed Vlad Tepes, the man behind the legend of Dracula. The Lake and the Forest in Caldarusani - (on 45 km from Bucharest): Caldarusani is an outstanding are for both fishing and hunting. The lake and the Forest in Cernica: The lake is 341 hectares with areas for swimming, camping and water sports. Other amenities for tourists include a restaurant and a medical center.
