Mures County Mures County is located in the heart of Romania, in the central-east area of the historical province Transylvania. Its area has a topography that gradually descends from the mountain tops of the Eastern Carpathians to the Transylvanian Plateau and Tarnave Plateau. To the north of Mures county lie the Calimani and the Gurghiu Mountains; this region, that is situated on the upper par of the Mures River, has beautiful landscapes that delight visitors. .

The upper Mures Valley has numerous attractions for visitors, including the following: Reghin is 32 kilometers from Targu Mures and is an important woodworking center, as well as home to a large and modern factory producing musical instruments, boats and various sport materials. Tourists will enjoy the Ethnography Museum and the Evangelical Church. From Reghin visitors travel on the Mures narrow path passing through some communities known for their folklore traditions. Among these are Suseni, Brancovenesti, Ideciu bai, Deda, and Lunca Bradului. Along these lines, Mures County is known as holder of a rich and diverse cultural traditions, characterized by the perpetuation of the customs of the Hungarians, the Transylvanian Saxons, and the Romas. The City of Targu Mures is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the Mures County, located in the upper stream of the Mures river. In Targu Mures, visitors will enjoy the Palace of Culture, which is one of the most beautiful building in the city and one of the most representative of the Secession style in Transylvania. In addition to the Palace of Culture there are a host of other cultural institutions such as the State Philharmonic Orchestra, the County Library, the Art Museum, art galleries, the History Museum, and the Mirrors Hall, which features Venetian mirrors, mural paintings and the six beautiful stained glass windows. Visitors may also want to visit the City Hall, which was built in a secession style and is remarkable because of the singular tower that is 60 meters in height. Another landmark in Targu Mures is the Lupa Capitolina, which is a monument of Latinity that includes a she-wolf with two children: Romulus and Remus. In addition, the Orthodox Cathedral is outstanding as is the Romano-Catholic Church. The Church of John the Baptist is the most important baroque edifice in the town. For those that are interested in Medieval life, the Citadel Complex is a must. In addition to its beautiful architecture and long history, Targu Mures is also a city of flowers. Time can be checked not only on the clock at the County Hall but also on a floral clock in Piata Trandafirilor. Leaving Targu Mures, crossing the vinyard-covered Tarnave Hills, visitors arrive in Sighisoara, the town with the most obvious historical patina in the Mures area. Sighisoara?s historical assets confirm the metaphors attached to them throughout the centuries: "Pearl of Tarnave", ?the Romanian Nurnberg?. Sighisoara is like a post card from the past, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among its numerous attractions are the Citadel?s Towers, the Colck Tower, the Tanners? Tower, the famous Joseph Haltrich High School and the House of Vlad the Devil (whom Bram Stoker made famous under the name of Dracula). Visitors also must see the Dominican Monastery Church. Sighisoara hosts more visitors each year than any community in Romania. For health conscious travelers, the Sovata Spa is located 60 km away from Targu Mures at the foot of the Gurghiului Mountain. The Sovata station is a product of the 20th century during a period when the Ursu Lake and the pavilion type cure base was popularized. The station is one of the most popular in the county and since 1990 it has become a favorite for travelers. The heliothermic Lake Ursu and other ten lakes of the resort attract a great number of visitors for rest and treatment. The water of Lake Ursu has invaluable therapeutic virtues. Sovata resort is famous for the efficiency of the cures used in gynecology, rheumatism, blood circulation and also for the curing effects of the air in the field of recovery. A nearby resort offers horseback riding in the summer and skiing in the winter. With all its assets of history, culture, architectural beauty, and nature, Mures County is one of the jewels of Romania.
