Bihor County is a topographical mix of hills, plains and mountains. From the relief point of view, the County of Bihor has mountain regions, but also hill and plain regions. The Bihor Mountains, with altitudes between 1,200 and 1849 m (Cucurbata Peak), the P?durea Craiului Mountains, the Codru-Mona Mountains and ?es Mountain dominate the landscape. This natural beauty is augmented by a host of tourist attractions in its cities, towns and communes. The administrative center of Bihor County is Oradea, with a city center that features the stately Black Eagle Palace, the Church of the Moon, the Oradea Fortress, and the Baroc Palace. The spa resorts of Baile Felix and B?ile 1 Mai are world famous for their treatments of a variety of ailments. B?ile 1 Mai is the site of a natural spring of thermal lotus ?Nymphaea Lotus?. Also, the lake shelters the snail from the ?Melanopsis? family and an endemic fish named ?Ro?ioara lui Racovi???. On the Somleului Hill, that overlooks B?ile Felix and Baile 1 Mai, there is Beftia, a paleantological site featuring ?Avenul de la Beftia?, which a natural well of more than 54 meters deep. In addition to the natural county?s natural attractions, tourists can enjoy the folklore and traditions of the region. Age-old customs and festivals allow tourists the unique experience to become part of the traditions of local residents. For travelers that want to enjoy life as it was, and still can be, Bihor County is an important destination. |

touristic sights The most interesting and the most complex region of the county is the Bihor Mountains, which rise to altitudes of over 1,800 meters. The highest peak is Cucurbata with an altitude that reaches 1,848 meters. Nearby is Ruginoasa Pit, a unique phenomenon in Romania due to its proportion. The Ruginoasa Pit is a ravine with a diameter of over 500 meters and a depth of nearly 400 meters. Another beautiful region of the county is the Carstic Padi? Plateau. Within close proximity are a number of tourist destinations including: Cet??ile Ponorului (Ponor?s Fortress), Cet?tile R?desei (R?desei Fortress), Lumea Pierdut? (Lost World), Bisericu?a Mo?ului (Mo?ului Church), Magura Vanata, Cheile Somesului Cald (the Gorges of Hot Somes), Poiana Varasoaia, Pietrele Boghi (Boghi?s Stones), Groapa de la Barsa, Poiana Ponor, Cheile Galbenei (the Gorges from Galbenei), Poiana Florilor, Culmea Carligate, and Ghe?arul Focul Viu. At the foot of the Padis Plateau, there is the village of Boga, where access to the Boga Waterfall begins. Also, from Boga tourists can proceed to the Aleului Valley which leads to the 82 meter tall Bohodei Waterfall. Another attraction for nature lovers is the Bears Cave in Chiscau. The Sighistelului Valley, which is just a few kilometers away, is the site of the greatest number of caves in Romania and also a breathtaking canyon that is suitable for hiking. Nearby, there is also the Meziad Cave, the tenth largest cave in Romania, which features two levels and hundreds of fossils.At lower altitudes, there are other majestic locations. Most of them are concentrated in the Crisul Repede Defile, such as the Vadul Crisului (the cave and the waterfall), V?ntului Cave (the ?Wind? Cave ? the longest cave in the South-East of Europe), Ungurul Mare Cave, Misidului Valley, Boiului Valley with its waterfalls, Br?dcutei Valley, Iadului Valley, and Lesu Barrage. |
