Covasna County Covasna County is situated in the center of the country, in the curvature of the Carpathians, and is bordered by Brasov, Buzau, Vrancea, Bacau and Harghita counties. The county has 128 settlements including Sfantu Gheorghe, the county seat, four towns ? Targu Secuiesc, Covasna, Baraolt, Intorsura Buzaului, and 33 communes. Hungarians make up a majority of the population. The county?s tourism potential is found in its mineral water springs, forests, unpolluted lakes, and scenic rivers. The picturesque landscape has been augmented by a plethora of historical and cultural attractions that make Covasna County popular to tourists. Known for the healing microclimate, especially for cardiovascular diseases, the Covasna Spa is the ?pearl? of the county, manifested in the fact that it took its name. Other spas, such as Balvanyos, Valcele, Malnas also provide health services to visitors. Both inns and motels, as well as excellent guesthouses, provide tourists with accommodations in a variety of price ranges. . The flora and fauna, the coniferous forests, and the diversity of the mineral waters make of Covasna a tourist destination all year long. Whether it?s hunting and fishing, hiking, or history, Covasna County can exceed the expectations of even the most seasoned traveler. From a topographical standpoint, Covasna County is the home of Volcano Lake, which is unique to Europe, as well as Saint Ana Lake. Also, it boasts the largest sulphur cave in Europe. The beauty of Covasna County is vast and varied. With its ?1,000 springs?, clean air, cool summers and moderate winters, the Covasna Spa boasts great natural treatments throughout the year. Easily accessible by both road and railway, the spa provides efficient treatment for cardiovascular diseases, disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system, of the digestive tract and annex glands. The Covasna ANTREC Branch was created in 1995 and today it has 17 guesthouses in all parts of the county. They are classified from one to three daisies depending on their amenities. ANTREC member guesthouses can be found in: Balvanyos, Sugas, Arcus, Zagon, Comandau, Zabala, Covasna, Ghelinta, Bixad, Dalnic, Cernat, Sf. Gheorghe spas.

Other spas in Covasna County include: Balvanyos: Lying at the foot of the Bodoc Mountains, at an altitude of 850 m, Balvanyos is a permanent spa. Ailments of the peripheral nervous system, and cardiovascular diseases may be treated here with help of knowledgeable staff members. Cold and hot baths with mineral water, mofettes, aerotherapy and heliotherapy provide tourists with a clean and fresh environment for healthy living. Malnas-Bai: Located in the Baraolt Mountains, at an altitude of 565 m, Malnas-Bai is surrounded by oak and beech forests. It is renowned for its carbogaseous, bicarbonated, sodic, calcic and magnesium waters, moffettes and mild climate. Valcele: It is a seasonal spa with many mineral springs recommended for treatment of cardiovascular diseases, disorders of the peripheral nervous system, and of the digestive and urinary tracts.
